Fall Clean-Ups and November Fun!

The idea behind a fall clean-up is not only to remove all the fallen leaves and twigs that accumulate each autumn, but to prepare your lawn and garden beds for the next growing season.

Start at the top: as Isaac Newton observed, what goes up must come down. The leaves that have blown up into your gutters are now impeding the flow of rain (and as winter progresses, melted snow, too) within the gutter system of your home and they must come down. It is prudent to clean your gutters at least once a year to ensure that rain and snow run-off are directed to the downspouts and away from your home, where the excess moisture can cause damage.

Next, it’s time to rake or blow out the leaves and tree debris which have collected amongst the plantings in your garden beds and on your lawn. You may want to consider removing dead growth at this point, as well.

Once your grass is leaf-free, don’t forget to give it a final mowing.

Now that all your fall chores are done, get out and enjoy some local activities and events!
